Shelton Darwin Phillips

October 30, 1925 — January 4, 2018

Shelton Darwin Phillips passed away Jan. 4, 2018, in Marble Falls, Texas. He was born Oct. 30, 1925, in Florence, Texas, to Andrew and Josie Phillips.

Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his parents, Andy and Josie, and brother-in-law, Vernon Bittle. His family is proud of his military record. He served in the US Navy on the USS Kadashan Bay CVE76 as an Aviation Boatswain’s Mate SV-V6 USNR during WW II. He saw action in the capture of the Southern Palau Islands and Leyte Island landings at the battle of Leyte Gulf. He told the family that he crossed the equator 14 times.

He resided in the Hill Country for most of his life, in several small communities: Bertram, Burnet and Spicewood. He retired as a heavy equipment operator and rancher. He loved to hunt and fish.

Mr. Phillips is survived by his sister, Dortha Phillips Bittle; nephews, Terry Bittle (Vickie) and Ronnie Bittle; and great niece Rebecca Sprinkles and her family.

Visitation was held Sunday, Jan. 7, at Clements Wilcox Funeral Home. Funeral service was held Monday, Jan. 8, at Clements Wilcox Funeral Home, with interment at Fall Creek Cemetery.
