Ted Wayne Snailum

Ted Wayne Snailum passed away Jan. 14, 2018. He was born in Benjamin, Texas, on July 1, 1936, to parents Lee and Grace Turner Snailum.

Ted was a self-made man. Having worked for Valero Energy for 30 years, Ted started at the bottom and worked his way up to Vice President of Operations. He was a company man all the way. Ted retired from San Antonio to Lake LBJ in 1995. He loved the lake house and all the relatives, children and grandchildren coming to visit, always ensuring the boats and wave runners were ready to go for the kids.

Ted loved sports, especially the Dallas Cowboys. He also loved fast cars, or cars of any kind. He had a Chevrolet at the age of 12 and worked on it himself. He worked in his dad’s Humble Gas station from the time he was 12. Ted probably had 50 different cars in his lifetime. One time the only gear working was reverse. He had taken his future wife home and had to back down a very busy road back to town. He met his mother coming down the highway and she almost had a heart attack! Ted also loved westerns, having seen every John Wayne movie. Coming from a golfing family, golf was something he did not love. He played one time and said “I have learned all I need to know” and never played again. He gave his clubs to his grandson Andrew.

Ted is survived by his wife of 61 years, Peggy Trammell Snailum; children, Ted Snailum, Jr. and wife Brenda Littleton, Colorado, and Lisa Lea Snailum and husband David Manuel, Lake Charles, Louisiana; grandchildren Steven and wife Franchesa Snailum, Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Andrew and wife Tanya Hayslip, Austin, Texas, Aaron and wife Sarah Hayslip, Durham, North Carolina, and Christine and husband Ian Foster, Houston, Texas; and great grandchildren Isaiah Hayslip, Aiden Hayslip, Jeremiah Hayslip and Wyatt Snailum. He is also survived by his sister, Shirley and husband Ray Jordan, Boerne, Texas, and brother, Jerry and wife Jackie Snailum, Fairview, Texas, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Kingsland.
