Area-wide Democratic Rally called for Saturday

Democrats will hold a free, area-wide event from noon-3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 3, at Westside Park Community Building, 1610 Second Street in Marble Falls.

“Llano County Democrats will have 35 candidates on their March Primary Election ballots,” said Dana Rushing, chairwoman of Llano County Democrats. “We are so excited about having so many candidates that we are going to have an 'Old- Fashioned Political Rally.'

“The free event will feature speeches from our local and statewide candidates, but we will also conduct a straw poll, and offer door prizes and hotdogs. The local trio Turnabout (Lisa Miller, Don Crowder and Pat Gibbons), will provide live music entertainment.”

Burnet and Blanco county Democrats and the Highland Lakes Democratic Women are co-hosting the event.

“The community center on Second Street at Avenue Q will provide an indoor venue for the rally, even if the weather is ugly,” Rushing said.

In local races, Llano native Jennie Lou Leeder and Odessa resident Eric Pfalzgraf are seeking the Democrats’ nomination for U.S. Representative in District 11. The incumbent, Republican Mike Conaway faces a primary challenge from Paul Myers.

In another local race, Democrats Joe Herrera and Stephanie Lochte Ertel are running for the opportunity to challenge incumbent Republican Andrew Murr in Texas House District 53. Leeder, Herrera and Ertel are among the candidates who will be speaking at the rally.

In addition, three Democrats, including well-known congressman Beto O’Rourke, are hoping for the chance to challenge Ted Cruz for the U.S. Senate.

Nine Democrats are running for the chance to be the Democrats’ nominee for governor. There are also contested races for the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor, controller of public accounts, commissioner of the General Land Office and railroad commissioner.
