'Paint the Town' ends in Marble Falls

The 12th Annual Paint the Town event came to a close this weekend with the announcement of the main Paint Out winners Friday night and Quick Draw winners on Saturday.
Artists were observed painting en plein air (in open air rather than in the studio) all around Marble Falls and the surrounding area throughout the week. They took time to conduct workshops and brought works for exhibit and purchase at the Lakeside Pavilion gallery exhibit.
The Best of Show winner was Randall Cogburn of Rosharon with an oil painting of the Jolly Roger Boat House in Fall Creek Park and the Artists Choice Award went to and Mike Simpson of Montrose, Colo.
Lee Ricks of Pleasanton won first place with a watercolor scene of the chuck wagon exhibited at Candlelight Ranch. Second place went to Linda Dumont of Austin for an interior scene of Choccolattes in oils.
Third place was awarded to jointly to Krystal W. Brown of Spring for an oil painting of the chuck wagon at Candlelight Ranch and Alison Leigh Menke of Clarksville, Md. for a scene from Old Oak Square. Menke also was the winner of the Quick Draw competition.
Other Quick Draw winners were Chuck Mauldin of Fredericksburg, second, and Richard Szkutnik of Greenwood Village, Colo.
Each of the Quick Draw winners was a main artist among 42 accepted in the juried competition, but that event was open to any local artists that wanted to compete and the result was a new wall in the pavilion gallery of works produced in just two hours.
There was some discussion of the furtherest distance an artist had come. Since Artem Brazhnik of Kiev, Ukraine, who had been accepted in the advance invitation review, was unable to attend, it was between Menke and Peggy Sebera of Petaluma, Calif.
Local artists were included among competitors in equal numbers to those farther afield. They included Kathy Meador of Marble Falls, Omar Garza of Cottonwood Shores, Betty Bielser of Buchanan Dam, Donna Bland of Kingsland, Bruce Bingham of Spicewood, M. Allison of Horseshoe Bay, Robert Rohm of Lago Vista, Barry Elgen of Cedar Park, Noma Freeman of Fair Oaks Ranch near Joppa, and Kim Timmons, Marla Ripperda and Dianna Goble, all of Burnet.
Also from Fredericksburg were Barbara Mauldin and Kay Northup and also from Austin were Warren Cullar and Frank Gabriel. Other Texas artists were Kathy Perales of New Braunfels, Nancy Wood of San Antonio, Jeanne Reavis of Houston, Jennifer Remy-Renfrow of Friendswood, Robert Wilkens of Universal City, Hana Case of Santa Fe, Marchita Priest of Rosenberg, Gary frisk of Richmond, Peggy Kingsbury of Pasadena Debra Latham of Kingwood and Kay Reinke of Crawford.
Other out-of-state competitors included Lewis Williams of Montrose, Colo. and three artists from Missouri, Cheryl Coenm of Bolivark, Jane Flanders of St. Louis and Allen Kriegshauser of Kirkwood.
