Torns steps down as CC, track coach

After 10 seasons coaching at Marble Falls High School, Coach Anthony Torns has decided to take on a new challenge.
Torns will soon coach at G 10 Academy in Austin's Westlake area.
“Our focus will be building the complete athlete, as sub entiites to G 10 Academy, we have Road Runner Run Club which I will be the head coach and our own soccer academy G 10 FC,” he said. “It was time to challenge myself to a greater degree and to have the flexibility with my family I desired and the freedom to focus my days on my passion of learning more about training the athlete and actually doing it full time.”
Torns describes himself as having “so many memories” as he has coached since 2008 with track and field and since 2010 with cross country.
“There are so many memories but as a coach on the track side one is the 2014 season when we had the best group of hurdlers around, Chase Martin, Natalie Schulz, and Sarah Lewis swept the top three spots in the 300 meters hurdles and Chase, Natalie and Blanca Fonseca went first, second and fourth in the 100 meter hurdles, which lead the way to the first district title in 20 plus years for the girls team,” Torns said. “ Cross Country had to be my first year when I only had two Varsity runners Sarah Stripling and Haley Stephens. Sarah made to Regionals and Haley was one place from qualifying, those two were also part of the 2014 District Championship track team. This was the most fearless and focused group I have ever coached, there were only 10 girls to score and we won the team title by 55 points.”
Despite the success, most recently with Bailey Goggans state medals in the 400 and 800 meters (including first in the 800), Torns prefers to be humble about his accomplishments.
“The legacy is not mine, but the runners that have run for me and the administrators that trusted me and allowed me to grow specifically former Athletic Director Cord Woerner and former head track coach Kyle Futrell,” Torns said. “So I feel fortunate to have been blessed with the opportunity to coach and be a part of this community.
