Dorothy Zuckero, 88, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2018, in Austin, Texas. She was born in Houston on December 9, 1929, to John Poole and Mattie Lou Bingham Poole.

Dorothy met Sam Zuckero at Camp Peniel, then located at Double Lake near Houston, and married him on Dec. 12, 1947. They lived in Houston, College Station, and then Thibodaux, Louisiana, where Dorothy graduated from Nichols State University as valedictorian in 1965. The Zuckero family moved back to Houston in 1965, where Dorothy taught first and second grades for 22 years until her retirement. Dorothy was a talented seamstress. She made most of her daughter's clothes, and even her wedding dress.

Dorothy and Sam moved to Marble Falls/Meadowlakes in 2002. They both did much volunteer work at Camp Peniel, with Dorothy working in the office.
