John Richard (Dick) Whisenhunt

John Richard (Dick) Whisenhunt, a longtime and well-known citizen of Marble Falls, passed away early Saturday morning, Sept. 1, 2018, on his 91st birthday. Dick was born in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. He attended Tulsa University for two years before joining the Navy, where he served aboard an LST Landing Craft in the Pacific. Upon completing his tour of duty, he returned home where he met and married Margaret Mae Smith on February 5, 1949.
Shortly after their marriage, Dick and Margaret moved to Burnet, Texas, where he began his career with the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) at Buchanan Dam. They transferred to Marble Falls, where he worked on the construction of the Max Starcke and Wirtz Dam projects. During his 43 years of service with the LCRA, he held various positions before being promoted to manager of hydro production over all six of the Highland Lakes dams. Upon his retirement, Dick and Margaret began to travel in their RV enjoying the sights of the United States and Canada with their friends in the Good Sam Club.
Dick was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Marble Falls, where he devoted a major portion of his time in service to the church. He served as a trustee and deacon, seldom missing a meeting. In addition, he served on the building, finance and personnel committees. Dick was also a founding committee member of the Fellowship Baptist Church, where he and Margaret attended the Grace Sunday School Class.
As a devoted church member, he was a servant to the widows and widowers and Margaret added a special touch by sending one of her baked goods. Dick also came to the aid of the church anytime there was an electrical emergency.
Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; his son, John; his mother, Marcelite; and his father, Lee.
He is survived by his brother, the Rev. Philip Whisenhunt; son, David Whisenhunt (Kaye); daughters Annette Hill (Rodney) and Melanie Sivells (Steve); nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Granite Mesa for their loving and compassionate care of Dick.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Marble Falls. A memorial service will be held at Fellowship Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8.
