Harold Layne Posey

March 22, 1927 — November 6, 2018

Harold Layne Posey, of Kingsland, Texas passed away Nov. 6, 2018. He was born to Bernice Belle Cox Posey and Daniel Posey on March 22, 1927, in Center Point, Texas.

Harold will be remembered most by his friends, family, and acquaintances as having a cheerful but determined personality. As a young man he enjoyed RCA bull riding and roping. He was always a cowboy at heart. He even had his own roping arena, where UTSA stands now, and he hosted small rodeos. His daughter has memories of learning to ride horses, pole bending and barrel racing from her dad.

At the age of 18, Harold enlisted in the Navy. As a Navy seaman, his ship was hit by a torpedo and he received significant shrapnel. He received his honorable discharge on Oct.ober 3, 1945.

During his lifetime he was a truck driver for a tire testing company, a welder, a border patrolman, a deputy sheriff for Bexar County, an investigator for Bexar County and lastly owned Posey Construction Company in San Antonio. His company constructed the concrete platform and placed the San Antonio Boots atop the platform at North Star Mall in San Antonio.

In his retired adulthood, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and being in his workshop. He spent many years traveling with his wife in their converted coach bus. They always traveled with friends and enjoyed their trips. All of the Southwest Bus Nuts came to love them. He enjoyed dancing with his wife and could really “cut a rug.”

His granddaughter remembers her one trip hunting with her PawPaw because she talked so much he never took her again. His grandson has fond memories of sitting on the bank of Lake Gunnison, fishing for hours, not talking, and just enjoying each other’s company.

Harold was so proud to be a 60+ year member of the Lonnie Irwin Daylight Lodge No. 1309 in San Antonio as well as a life member of the Alzafar Shriners. He really enjoyed his years as part of the Alzafar Shrine precision motorcycle team.

Survivors include his sister, Lillian Louise Lowes; son, Daniel Layne Posey and wife Candace (Candy); daughter, Denise Lynn Posey; two grandchildren: Michelle Joleyn Gansler and husband Michael, and Joshua Layne Posey and wife Leanne. He is also survived by 6 great-grandchildren.

Harold is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Tommie Lee Posey; and his mother and father.

His family would like to thank all the Visiting Angels who took care of him as they each made his life better over the past two years. They would also like to thank all of the staff at Texas Home Health Hospice for being there not only for Harold but also for the family.
