Mustang Stadium to get new track, turf

Now that the Marble Falls Independent School District bond has passed, school officials will be looking to replace the Mustang Stadium artificial grass surface and the track that surrounds it.

The curent surfaces have been in use since 2009, almost 10 years.

Walking on the field, thin areas are noticeable, and one can see there's more granulized black rubber than green turf.

“This is normal wear and tear for a field that is 10 years old that gets the amount of traffic that it has undergone,” said Coach Mike Birdwell. “Many people have voiced opinions about both surfaces and know that they are in need of repair within the next year. We are appreciative of district leadership for their vision in replacing two extremely important surfaces for our Mustang athletic programs.”

Dr. Chris Allen, Marble Falls Independent School District superintendent, added these are signs the turf needs replacing.

Allen said installing the new field would take six to eight weeks.

“[Replacing the field] is still being planned and considered in light of how it effects programs and potential strategies for the most economical timing of the project,” he said. 

The current artificial grass surface features the purple Mustang logo at midfield, the words “MARBLE FALLS” in purple, outlined in white, in the green northern end zone, and the word “MUSTANGS” in purple, outlined in white, in the green southern end zone.

Birdwell said he does not know if the new field could have the same markings or a different look.
