Floyd Vern Jackson

December 25, 1937 — November 30, 2018

Floyd Vern Jackson, 80, of Kingsland, Texas, passed away surrounded by his loving family, Nov. 30, 2018. He was born Christmas Day 1937 to Mabry and Eda (Thurman) Jackson in Bertram, Texas.

Floyd was born to a very large family, he had five brothers and five sisters. When he was a young man the family had relocated from Texas to Carlsbad, New Mexico. At a young age Floyd decided to return to his roots, and hitch hiked from Carlsbad all the way back to the Texas Hill Country. After the long journey home, Floyd went to work for Dick’s Automotive Repair where he was a trusted auto mechanic for over thirty-five years. After his long tenure at Dick’s, Floyd started his own shop in Kingsland, Texas. The “Shop” became a gathering place for local people from all walks of life to solve the world’s problems and tell tall tales with the help of a few cold beers. Floyd didn’t get out much, but welcomed people into his shop or home with open arms. He was a people person, had a great sense of humor, and will be missed by all who knew him, especially his family.

He is survived by his children, Donna Gliddon and husband Tony of Kingsland, Texas, Sandy Meyer of Bastrop, Texas, Karen Tanner and husband Allen of Copperas Cove, Texas and Mabry Jackson of Bastrop, Texas. Eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family also survive.

Floyd is preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife, Edith.

A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, in the Putnam Funeral Home Chapel in Kingsland, Texas. An online guest register may be signed at PutnamCares.com
