Gene Forrest Smith passed away Friday, Nov. 30, 2018 in Austin, Texas, at the age of 53. He was born Jan. 16, 1965 in Casper, Wyoming, to Vann Smith and Patricia (Price). He served in the U.S. Army, and his favorite hobbies included participating in rodeos, being an avid baseball player as well as being part of a chess team.

Gene is survived by his mother, Patricia Lucas; stepdad, George Lucas; wife, Minerva Soto Smith; children, Sophia Soza, Brittany Jean Anderson, Deidra Smith and husband Colton Liscum, Destiny Smith, and David Smith and wife Nicole Farris; sisters, Dinty Smith, and TJ Smith; and brothers, Lloyd Smith and Daniel Smith; eight grandchildren and an expected great grandson.

He is preceded by Van Smith, Gary Lee Harvel and Jacob Cole.

A visitation was held Tuesday, Dec. 4, at Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Chapel in Kingsland, Texas. The funeral service was held Wednesday, Dec. 5, at Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Chapel in Kingsland with Pastor Jim Coursey and the Rev. Jim Patterson officiating. Interment followed at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers were Colton Liscum, Ezekiel Soto, Lloyd Smith, Michael Taber Jr., George Lucas and Mike Taber. Serving as honorary pallbearers were David Smith, Cruz Soto, Jr., Xavier Soza, Xavion Soza, Ivan Soza, and Carmelo Soto.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Helping for Heros, 7420 East FM 1431, Marble Falls, TX 78654 and Ryan Anthony Liscum Scholarship Fund, First United Bank, account number 4220145.
