Robert “Bobby” Darwin Jones

October 20, 1940 — December 2, 2018

Robert (“Bobby”) Darwin Jones, 78, of Kingsland, Texas, passed away at home on Dec. 2, 2018.

Bobby was born on Oct. 20, 1940, in Coleman, Texas, to Felix and Imarene Jones. He was the older brother to three sisters, Kathryn, Bonnie, and Helen. He spent his younger years in Tahoka before graduating from Pecos High School in 1959, where he excelled with his speed on the football and track teams.

Bobby attended Texas Tech University and graduated with a B.S. in Agriculture in 1963. He raised a family in Idalou while working as a commercial farmer for many years at Dorman & Company in Lubbock. He eventually moved to Crosbyton where he worked for Crosbyton Seed Co. until his retirement in 2005. He made many important contributions to the sorghum industry and was known for his strong work ethic and attention to detail.

Bobby was a father to Robin, who died in infancy; Barry; Denise; and Brent. He was proud of his two grandchildren, Cole and Kylie. He was a lifelong Texas Tech and Dallas Cowboys fan. He enjoyed taking cruises to Alaska and the Panama Canal.

Bobby moved to Kingsland in 2005, where he spent his time fishing, gardening, woodworking, tracking the weather, working the crossword puzzle in the newspaper each morning, reading western novels, and playing 42 dominoes with his friends on Thursdays.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Imarene; his infant daughter, Robin, Candy Talley Jones and Gail Exum Jones.

He is survived by his eldest son, Barry, of Melbourne, Florida; his daughter, Denise Jones Williams, her husband, Randy, and their children, Cole and Kylie, of Forney, Texas; and his youngest son, Brent, of Kingsland. He is also survived by his sisters and their husbands, Kathryn and J.T. Benton of Marble Falls, Texas, Bonnie and John Whittle, of Kingsland, and Helen and Larry Bozeman of Idalou, Texas, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
