Bertram council signs off on separation agreement with ex police chief

The City of Bertram amended requirements for a reserve police officer position and approved the separatation agreement with former police chief JJ Wilson at their Dec. 18 City Council meeting.

By a vote of 5-0, the council approved a separation agreement with Bertram's former police chief JJ Wilson, who is facing grand jury charges including DWI.

At the January meeting, the council wil again look at an amending ordinance for the Comprehensive Master Plan. Councilmember Jane Scheidler made a motion for City Council to review the recommendations from the Comprehensive Master Plan and the recommended changes from Planning and Zoning Commission and bring back to next meeting for instruction on drafting an amending ordinance. Councilmember Jean Worrell seconded the motion. The motion carried by a vote 5-0.

The council then made changes to the reserve place officer position, as Worrell made a motion to update the reserve police officer job description to read “TCOLE”, change the number of hours reserves are required to work to “16 hours” and change weekends to “as needed”. Councilmember Mike Dickinson seconded the motion, which carried, 5-0.

In a lawsuit regarding the damage claim against the city, filed by Tanja Fry of Castleberry Properties, Worrell made a motion to allow City Attorney Michael Guevara to proceed as discussed. Mayor Pro-tem Kim Klose seconded the motion, which was carried 5-0.

Klose made a motion to allow Mayor Adam Warden to sign a letter clarifying the contractual relationship with Felps LLC, regarding city water supply options and an agreement with Felps LLC regarding water rights. That motion was carried, 5-0, following Councilmember Pat Turner seconding the notion.
