James Henry DeGroat

d. January 5, 2019

James Henry DeGroat, 79, of Kingsland, Texas, passed away on Jan. 5, 2019, surrounded by family and friends. Jim, as he was known to his many friends, is survived by his partner, Velma Gauny; his two children, Kimberley Bentley, and son-in-law Chris Bentley, Jim DeGroat (JR) and daughter-in-law Amy DeGroat; grandchildren, Molly Dart, Nash DeGroat, Emily Dart, and Seth Dart who adored him and had many fun and exciting adventures with their “Grandad”; sister Quita Routson and her husband Ted Routson; nephews, Larry Franke and wife Kathy, Eric Franke and wife Rebecca; niece, Cassie and husband Donnie.

Jim led a full life accomplishing many of his life goals becoming a master electrician for Jefferson Chemical and led the maintenance department there for many years before retiring to the hill country to realize another dream of owning and operating the Hi-Line Lake Resort on Lake Buchanan. He loved being on and around the lake and continued that interest by starting 3D Boat Dock’s, a custom dock construction business. Jim never met a stranger, and that philosophy carried him throughout his life and afforded him many meaningful friendships. He will be missed by many. Rest in peace Dad, and know that those lives that you touched are better for it.

A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held Sunday, Feb. 3, on the Vanishing Texas River Cruise boat at 2 p.m., located at 443 Waterway Lane, Burnet, on Lake Buchanan.
