Robert Warren Cassingham, 91, died Dec. 30, 2018, in Dallas. Born in Enid, Oklahoma, to Robert Lee Cassingham and Hazel Mae Warren Cassingham, he lived in Wichita, Kansas, and Shawnee, Oklahoma, graduating from Shawnee High School. After attending Oklahoma Baptist University and serving in the Navy, Bob earned Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Oklahoma.
Survivors are his wife, Louise Powell Cassingham; daughter Margaret Schieffer (Paul) of Dallas; sons Robert Cassingham (Edie) of Aiken, South Carolina, and Paul Cassingham (Patricia) of New Orleans, LA; grandchildren Matthew Cassingham (Danielle), Sarah Riehl (Jonathan), David Schieffer, Kristin Myers (Chandler), George, Jane, and Stephen Cassingham; and great-grandchildren Holland and Aubrey.
Bob and Louise met at OU, married in El Reno, Oklahoma, following graduation, and began work for the California Oil Company, now Chevron, in New Orleans, Louisiana, eventually moving to Rumbai, Sumatra, Indonesia and Bakersfield, California, before retiring to Meadowlakes and Dallas.
Bob read widely — fiction, history, business, current news and events — with great interest. Innovation delighted him, and he had unshakeable faith that growth and change is nearly always for the better. He was a snappy dresser and had a wry sense of humor. He was interested in his community, invested in his country, and loved each member of his family deeply. His heart for charity included the religious and educational institutions that shaped him; organizations devoted to preserving US history and the natural world; and those serving people displaced by overwhelming forces, including famine, epidemic, or war.
Having survived polio in 1955, he lived a good life, on his feet as long as possible and never thinking of himself as disabled. He was unfailing courteous to those who assisted him in any capacity.
