Billy Wayne Wimberly, 77, of Marble Falls, died in his home Monday, Jan. 21. He was surrounded by his wife of 53 years, Mary Elizabeth Wimberly, his two surviving sons and daughter, and his granddaughter, Truley Wimberly. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, at the Richland Cemetery, three miles east of Marble Falls off FM 1431.

Wimberly was born in Marble Falls to Wilbur and Annie Mae Wimberly on March 18, 1941. He was the third of five children, and the only boy. Though he never made it past the fifth grade, which he attended at the Old Granite School House on Broadway in Marble Falls, he grew up to own his own business and raise a family of four.

Wimberly fought in the Vietnam War, serving in the Navy as an E-5 second class petty officer. He returned from service to work in the quarry industry, which lead to a job driving trucks for quarry companies operating in Central Texas. He became a manager but left to build a fleet of his own trucks and became an independent businessman.

A dedicated family man, Wimberly spent his non-working life at home, where his greatest pleasure was visiting with friends and family from his lounge chair in the living room or at the kitchen table over a meal. He is remembered as a friendly, talkative friend, father, husband, and brother who was always interested in everyone he met.

Wimberly is preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Annie Mae Wimberly; his oldest sister, Barbara Ellen Strickland; and son, Randall Ervin Spiekermann.

He is survived by wife, Mary Elizabeth Wimberly; daughter, Terry Lane Layton (Leon) of Marble Falls; and sons, Waylon Wade Wimberly of Marble Falls, and Harlan Clark Wimberly (Wendy) of Midland. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Britany Renee Williams (Roger) of Marble Falls, Rikki LeneeWimberly (Greg) of Kingsland, Taylor Wayne Wimberly (Konner) of Granite Shoals, Trey Daniel Wimberly of Granite Shoals, and Truley Michelle Wimberly of Marble Falls. Great-grandchildren are Kurstin Williams and Bryce Williams of Marble Falls, Distel Wimberly of Granite Shoals, Mercedes Elizabeth Chalupa and Morgan Ashley Chalupa of Granite Shoals.

He is survived by three of four siblings: Beulah Mae Knox (Doug) of Kerrville, Betty Louise Brookshire (Sam) of Azle, and Rosie Juanita Goff of Alvin. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
