Mustangs swimmers qualify for State

The Marble Falls swim team had two swimmers qualify for the state swimming and diving meet to be held in Austin on Friday, Feb. 15 and Saturday, Feb. 16.

Sophomore Landry Stewart and freshman Taylor Ashbaugh will represent the Mustangs at the highest state level later this month after personal-best performances at the regional meet at Texas A&M University on Friday and Saturday.

Ashbaugh finished with personal best and school record times in the 100-yard fly and 100-yard breaststroke events; Stewart set personal best and school record times in the 200-yard individual medley and 500-yard freestyle.

Ashbaugh qualified for the finals with a 15thplace finish in the 100-yard fly and finished 14thplace in the finals with a time of 1:02.93. It is the 100-yard breaststroke that she will be competing in later this month, however, after posting a 1:07.53 time in the finals – a state wilcard qualifying time.

Stewart will compete in two events in the state meet: the 200-yard IM and 500-yard freestyle. She finished the finals with a second-place time of 2:11.81 in the 200-yard IM and finished seventh-place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:17.54 – a wildcard qualifying time.

The state meet will be held on Feb. 15 and 16 at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin. The 5A warm-up and dive practice begins at 3:45 p.m., and the 5A preliminaries begin at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 15.

On Saturday, Feb. 16, the 5A swimming and diving finals are scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. after a one-hour warm-up period.
