Peggy Blackmore Tombs
Peggy Blackmore Tombs
d. February 19, 2019
Peggy Blackmore Tombs, 80, went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2019, surrounded by family. She leaves three daughters, Monica McCollum, Mojo Cornelius and husband Jim, Tanya McCon and husband Donald; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, one brother Jimmy Blackmore, and many close friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, W.H. Tombs (Bill); parents, Roland and Velma Blackmore; and two sisters, Shirley Blackmore Smith, and Cammy Garey. She was born in Austin, Texas and raised in Central Texas.
In her early years, Peggy enjoyed the country life living on several ranches in Austin and Florence with her parents and siblings. She moved to Georgetown as a young girl and enjoyed the “small town” life. Attending Georgetown High School, she was very active in the band, playing the clarinet and twirling. She graduated from Georgetown High School in 1957, and attended Texas Tech University where she was a majorette for the Red Raiders.
After leaving Texas Tech, she returned to Georgetown and started her family. In 1968, she and her husband Bill moved to Marble Falls and enjoyed life on Lake Marble Falls. In 1974, they bought their dream ranch near Backbone Valley, and this was home until her death. She truly loved the country. In addition to country living she enjoyed traveling and being a genealogist. Preserving and sharing our family and national history was very important to her. A trip with her was always filled with family stories of ancestors. She actively served on numerous genealogical organizations, such as the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Daughters of the Republic of Texas and Daughters of the American Revolution.
Peggy will always be remembered for her faith and “fierce” love for family. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Marble Falls, where she served alongside her daughter with Creative Heart Ministry. She was a wonderful mom, teaching her girls to love unconditionally and was always by their side. To her grandchildren she was “Nana” and they enjoyed many great adventures with her. Her great-grandchildren were also cherished. Peggy, aka Mom and Nana will be greatly missed by all.
Pallbearers are Bryan McCollum, Audie McCollum, Denham McCollum, Jordan Cornelius, Trey McCon, Ty Isherwood and Dalton Isherwood.
