Jury acquits Jonathan Gulley in indecency case

A Burnet County jury acquitted an Alabama man of two counts of indecency with a child on Tuesday, March 5, in the 33rd District Court.
Jonathan Gulley had been accused of engaging in sexual contact with a minor with offenses that were alleged to have occurred in September and November 2014.
During the trial, Gulley was represented by Burnet County public defenders Michelle Moore and Nathan Kight. After the state had presented the child, her mother and the investigating officer, the defense presented testimony from several witnesses who questioned the truthfulness of the mother.
In addition, witnesses disputed the possibility of the claims of indecency because the child and Gulley were rarely alone in a house with eight people.
Gulley then took the stand and denied the allegations while providing details about the motive behind the accusations.
“False accusations have life-altering consequences for the accused,” said Moore. “Jonathan spent over a month in jail, was unable to work as a gunsmith, which is the profession that he loves, and was unable to see his children during the 1.5 years that this case took to reach the courts. We are relieved that an innocent man can get his life back.”
