Marble Falls police officer killed in wreck

Speed appears to have been a possible factor in a one-vehicle motorcycle accident which killed a Marble Falls police officer early Friday, April 26, east of the city.
Officer Andrew Howe, 36, of Leander, was driving westbound on Ranch to Market Road 1431, about five miles east of Marble Falls near the entryway of Faith Academy, at 5:20 a.m. Friday when he crashed his 2006 Yamaha, the Texas Department of Public Safety reported.
“Motorcycle was traveling west on 1431 at a high-rate of speed; it was passing vehicles,” the report stated. “Vehicle crested a curve on a hill before sliding off to the side. The vehicle continued west until it crashed into a ditch on the east side of the driveway.”
Howe was transported to Baylor Scott & White in Marble Falls. He was pronounced dead at 6:41 a.m. by Burnet County Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Debbie Bindseil at the hospital.
An investigation into the cause of the accident is pending.
Marble Falls City Secretary Christina McDonald, who also serves as the city's public information officer, said Howe had been with the department nearly two years.
Howe joined the Marble Falls Police Department in June 2017 after previously serving on the Richardson Police Department for 10 years.
“Please keep Officer Howe's family in your thoughts during this difficult time,” McDonald said.
Funeral arrangements are pending at this time.
