After clarification by University Interscholastic League officials, Marble Falls runner Bailey Goggans broke the conference 5A 800-meter run state record at the 2019 State track meet on Friday at the University of Texas.
Goggans finished with a time of 2:07.39 and broke the previous record of 2:09.27 – set in 2014 – by nearly two seconds.
As of Friday night, the official UIL results tracker listed the 5A record as 2:07.07, and the announcement that Goggans broke that record left those in attendance confused. The results website is now updated to reflect the correct previous record and Goggans' record-breaking time.
The performance in the 800-meter run was the first of two gold medal runs for Goggans on Friday; she also took home gold in the 400-meter dash – an event she finished third in last year.
