The majority of the teams on the Mustangs 2019 schedule are a mystery to Mustangs head coach Brian Herman, but that also means he and his scheme are a mystery to them.

Herman inherited a non-district schedule that was set before he arrived in Marble Falls as head coach.

This schedule was determined two years ago, and it's time for me to work on the next two years,” he said. “You schedule non-district games with agreements with other coaches. The tricky part is re-alignment. I have to plan for up to five non-district games just in case [we get re-organized into a six-team district].”

Including a scrimmage at the beginning of the season, the Mustangs will play three teams – Liberty Hill (scrimmage), Canyon Lake and Navarro – that run the slot-T offensive scheme. Herman isn't exactly excited by those matchups.

What's odd about that is that nobody in our district runs it,” he said. “[These non-district games] don't really prepare us for what we will see week-to-week. That's something we'll transition away from.” . . .
