Samuel Daulton Giddens

November 12, 1938 — September 23, 2019
Sam was born in Rochester, Texas to Elmore Daulton (Blue) and Savonne Cox Daulton. He was the eldest of six children. Sam graduated from Odessa High School in 1958. Upon graduation he went to work in the oil field. He met his wife, Cathy Rush, and they were married for over 61 years.

Sam worked in the oilfield in Odessa until 1991. From there, he and his wife retired and moved to Marble Falls, Texas to a small ranch. They raised everything from pot belly pigs to llamas. Sam lost his vision and had two very special dogs that were his eyes and ears. Trudy came first and then Barney. Sam had many other talents. He loved building and racing cars. He raced everything from round track to drag racing. He was skilled at carpentry, welding, mechanics and electrical work. Sam was devoted to his family and spent many hours building beautiful handmade gifts.
Sam is survived by his wife, Cathy Giddens; his daughters, Vicki Dietchler and Christi Murrill, all of Marble Falls; son, John Giddens and wife Debbie of Chesapeake, Virginia; brothers, Don and wife Minnie, and Lee, of Greenville, Texas, and Mike Giddens and wife Linda of Manvel; and sister, Dorothy Hinds of Texas City. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Tommy Perkins, Jimmy Murrill, Jennifer Murrill, Johnny Murrill, and John Patrick Giddens; eight great-grandchildren, Ryan, Kyla, Lilyann, Dub, Kimberley, Kody, Hallie and Shelby; as well as many nieces and nephews; and two very special friends, Roy Wingate of Odessa, and Melinda Sauer of Marble Falls.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother; and one sister, Janie Green.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 12, beginning at 1 p.m. at The Sanctuary, 407 Ave N, Marble Falls, Texas.
