Shirley Trulene Grumbles

February 14, 1936 — September 29, 2019

Shirley was born in Austin, Texas on Valentines Day in 1936 and grew up in Bee Cave, Texas. Her parents and grandparents were all native to Bee Cave and there is a rich history of the Thurman, Wallace and Hudson families that lived in the Bee Cave area. She lived many years in Alaska with her family where her husband Carl worked for ITT and the Port of Anchorage. She and Carl moved to Malaysia for a couple of years for his work and then moved back to Texas in 1980. Carl and Shirley grew up in Bee Cave together and went to the little “Bee Cave” school across from the Bee Cave Baptist Church where she will be buried. She was married to Carl for 50 years before he passed away in 2005.

Shirley is survived by her three sons, Guy, Darrel and Geron Grumbles; her grandchildren, Miranda Van Brande, Jonathan Grumbles, Shawna Grumbles, Nicholas Grumbles, Matthew Grumbles, Wyatt Grumbles and Jessie Grumbles; her great-grandchildren, Parker and Regan Van Brande; and her sister-in-law, Barbra Thurman; and her three children, Jeff Thurman, Brad Thurman and Dana Yarter. She is preceded by her husband, Carl “Snookie” Grumbles; her brother, Darrel Thurman; and her parents, Truman and Ethel Thurman.

Shirley loved her family, her friends, her church and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends but we are all grateful that she has a resting place with the Lord and her husband, brother, parents and grandparents.

A celebration of life will be held for Shirley Grumbles including visitation, memorial service and funeral at the Bee Cave Baptist Church and Cemetery at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, 2019. A luncheon for everyone will be held at Flores Mexican Restaurant at Lohman’s Crossing directly following the service.

The family has requested in leu of flowers that a donation be made in Shirley’s name to the American Breast Cancer Society.
