Mary Ellen (Thurman) Denson

September 22, 1943 — October 18, 2019

Mary was embraced in the arms of the Lord on Oct. 18, 2019, while her family was by her side at the age of 76 ending a strong battle against cancer. Mary Ellen was born on Sept. 22, 1943, in San Antonio, Texas to Merrell and Frances (Wagenfuhr) Thurman.

She resided in the Marble Falls area most of her life and is a 1962 graduate of Marble Falls High School. She graduated from Mary Hardin-Baylor University in 1966 with degrees in Music and Education. She was an elementary school teacher for many years. She married Robert (Bob) Denson on Dec. 22, 1967.

Mary was fortunate to be the organist for the First Baptist Church of Marble Falls for several years as well as numerous other churches in Texas, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Colorado. She was so very thankful for the opportunity to obtain her Music Degree that she endowed a Music Scholarship at Mary Hardin-Baylor for students to be able to pursue their dreams.

She is survived by her loving husband, Bob. Mary and Bob have two daughters, Marissa De Leon and husband Joe of San Antonio, and Krista Powell and husband Chris of Monahans. She also has six beautiful grandchildren, Avery Hollis, Dayne Hollis, Cassie De Leon, Noah Powell, Chloe’ Powell, and Bryan Powell. Mary is also survived by two brothers, Damon Thurman and wife Sandy, and Gary Thurman and wife Rebeca; niece, Tracy Burdett; and nephews, Nathan and Jason Thurman. She is preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Kenneth.

There will be a memorial service at the Clements Wilcox Funeral Home at 1805 Highway 281 North in Marble Falls, Friday, Oct. 25 at 2 p.m. Visitation with the family will begin at 1 p.m.
