David Staples Sorenson

June 11, 1941 — December 3, 2019

David Staples Sorensen, 78, of Marble Falls, passed away on Dec. 3, 2019. He was born on June 11, 1941 to John and Hetty (Andreason) Sorensen in Galveston, Texas. David graduated from Ball High School in 1958 and soon enlisted in the United States Army, where he honorably served until 1961. After returning to civilian life, he met and married Patricia Magliolo. Their son, Stephen, was born in 1966.

David attended college on the GI Bill and graduated with an associate degree majoring in electronics from San Jacinto College. He went to work for Houston Lighting and Power Co. in 1961 and retired in 2000. He then worked at a number of jobs and power plants, ending up at STPNOP as an instrument supervisor. After retirement from STPNOP, he and Pat moved to Horseshoe Bay to be closer to their grandsons.

David was active in every church he attended – serving as an acolyte at Trinity Episcopal Church in Galveston and on the vestry at St. Barnabas’ Episcopal Church in Houston, St Mary’s Episcopal Church in Bay City, and Trinity Episcopal Church in Marble Falls. He also served on the Bishop Committee at St. Andrews Mission in Pearland. Other roles he served in while attending Trinity Episcopal Church of Marble Falls were: Jr. Warden, Treasurer, Chairman of the Audit Committee and, finally, Lay Ministries Coordinator, which he held for seven years.

David leaves a legacy of generosity and service to others. He was a pillar of strength, perseverance and faith in his family. His passionate belief in God, love of country, and Texas pride will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

David is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Sorensen of Marble Falls, Texas; son, Stephen Sorensen and wife Michelle of Burnet, Texas; grandsons, Taylor Sorensen (Kenzie Curby) and Brett Sorensen (Emma Rothermund) of Burnet, Texas; sister, Marilyn Roden of Arcadia, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Hetty Sorensen; and brother, John Sorensen, Jr.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 909 Avenue D, Marble Falls, with Rev. David Sugeno officiating. An online registry may be signed at CremationAdvocates.net.
