Lorene Marie Phillips

November 14, 1933 — December 5, 2019

Lorene Marie Phillips, 86, of Kingsland, Texas passed away Dec. 5, 2019. She was born to Alvin and Mary (Sughroue) Rothmeyer on the family farm near Oberlin, Kansas on Nov. 14, 1933. Later the family moved to McCook, Nebraska where Lorene graduated from high school in 1950.

Lorene married Ted Phillips on Oct. 22, 1955 in Savannah, Georgia. Lorene was a career military wife and raised her children in multiple locations. When Ted retired, the family returned to Kingsland, Texas where Ted had been assigned to manage Camp Warhawk.

Lorene was a member of St Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and the American Legion Woman’s Auxiliary. She participated in many fundraising events with both. In her spare time, she enjoyed bowling, sewing, crocheting, gardening and ceramics. She was an avid Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy fan, she also liked watching golf and college football, Longhorns and Cornh uskers, on television. Ted and Lorene met at a dance and they continued to enjoy dancing the rest of their lives.

She is survived by her daughters, Jane McCarthy of Tacoma, Washington, Mary Mays and husband Michael of Amboy, Illinois; sons, David Phillips and wife Teresa of Great Falls, Montana, Theodore “T.W.” Phillips and wife Joanne of Kingsland, Texas; sisters, Dolores Lawson of Hayes Center, Nebraska, Anne Jones of Grand Island, Nebraska; brothers, Al Rothmeyer of McCook, Nebraska, Wayne Rothmeyer and wife Judy of Las Vegas, Nevada, Larry Rothmeyer and wife Saundra of Leavenworth, Kansas, and Gary Rothmeyer and wife Connie of Grand Island, Nebraska. Numerous grandchildren; nieces; nephews; extended family; and friends also survive.

She is preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Ted Phillips.

The family will have a private service at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park, Burnet, Texas at a later date. In lieu of flowers and food, the family requests condolences be made at PutnamCares.com.
