Dolores Vargas Whitman

January 3, 1930 — December 29, 2019

Dolores Vargas Whitman, 89, of Kingsland, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 29, 2019, five days short of her 90th birthday. Born in San Antonio, Texas on Jan. 3, 1930 to Manuel and Linna Vargas, Dolores graduated from Texas Christian University in 1947.

She married W.A. “Bill” Brackett in 1955, raised her three children in Midland, Texas, then retired and relocated to the Texas Hill Country in 1983. Dolores served as City Secretary for the City of Granite Shoals after the death of husband, and eventually found love again with Robert Wesley Whitman in 1993.

Dolores was loved and admired by her many friends and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a lover of classical music, a talented piano player in her younger years, and was a fierce competitor to anyone who challenged her to a game of Farkle, but found her greatest joy serving her church family as an elder for St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. She also made many of her greatest friends volunteering for the Marble Falls Library Thrift Store.

She is survived by her two daughters, Becky Brackett and Pamela Kinsella, both of Kingsland; and her seven grandchildren, Toby Mendenhall, Melanie Ybarra, Derrick Ybarra, Sasha Sankowsky, Nicholas Sankowsky, Thomas Kohlmeyer, Stephen Kohlmeyer, and their spouses.

Dolores was preceded in death by her first husband and love of her life, William A. Brackett; second husband, Robert Wesley Whitman; and only son, William Brett Brackett.

She will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to know her. Her loving spirit, kind heart and deeds who touched many, and her love of the Lord, will be in our hearts and minds forever.

Family visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2020, and funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 4 at Jenkins Funeral Home Chapel, Burnet, Texas. Interment will follow at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park in Burnet.

The family will have a memorial service 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020 at St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Marble Falls Texas.

Arrangements under the care of Jenkins Funeral Home, 109 North Main Street, Burnet, Texas. 512-756-4444.
