On Jan. 10, 2020, Elizabeth (Betty) Knowles passed away from natural causes at St. David’s North Austin Medical Center in the company of her husband of 57 years and her three sons. A native of Lunenburg, Massachusetts, where she lived for 24 years, Betty was educated at the University of Massachusetts where she earned her BS degree and later became an RN. She practiced her profession for several years until her first child was born and later when her last child went to college.
Betty lived most of her adult life with her husband in suburban Houston and suburban Austin, Texas (Spicewood), where she was active in the Methodist church and the Highland Arts Gallery. She was an accomplished artist. Betty and her husband enjoyed life at their lake house and from extensive international travel having visited six continents and 45 countries. She was a talented piano player and enjoyed playing for friends and family.
She is survived by her husband, Jimmie Wayne Knowles; her sons, David William (Jill) of Houston, Gregory Wayne (Patty) of Bend, Oregon, and Christopher Harwood of Austin; three granddaughters, Elise, Ashley, and Brooke; and one grandson, Garrett. From her Karl birth family, she is survived by three sisters, Marilee Karl-Foubert of Salzburg, France; Ruth Karl of Marble Falls, Texas; and Beverly Christenson of Fitchburg, Massachusetts; a sister-in-law, Kathy Karl of Narragansett, Rhode Island; and one niece, Alice Foubert of Salzburg.
Many thanks to the staff at St. David’s Medical Center for making her final days as comfortable as possible until her passing.
In lieu of flowers and cards, the family suggests donations to the March of Dimes in honor of Betty, who was a polio survivor.
A private Celebration of Life will be held at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, Marble Falls, Texas on Sunday, Jan. 19 at 2 p.m.
