Meadowlakes couple promotes neighborly assistance

Griselda Mendez of Meadowlakes was happy to receive eggs, beans, ham and other items at her home from the Neighbors Helping Neighbors initiative, which has spread out to other communities since it began four weeks ago.

Since mid-March, what started out in Meadowlakes as a community project to help people in need of hard-to-find items has blossomed into the Neighbors Helping Neighbors initiative and is reaching out to people throughout the Highland Lakes region.

But what makes this initiative even more special is that those being helped are those who have stepped in to contribute and help others down the line as well, said Meadowlakes resident Sherri Staley, who organized the project with her husband Leo “Doc” Staley.
