Granite Shoals 50th Year Bash a success

At least 2,000 guests joined in the festival celebrating the anniversary of the City of Granite Shoals on Friday and Saturday, April 23-24. 

Evelyn Turner, 99, was the honored guest to blow out the birthday candle for the Granite Shoals 50th Year Bash opening Saturday. She and her husband bought land on Belaire East Drive in 1963 and they built the house she shares with her son now in 1980 and she still is active in Granite Shoals First Baptist Church.

LCRA, PEC award grant to Llano County Historical Society

The Llano County Historical Society will be able to purchase new climate control equipment and lighting for its facility thanks to an $18,096 community development grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority and the City of Llano.

The historical society will buy two new air conditioners and two commercial ceiling fans to better cool and circulate air in the museum, and LED lighting fixtures to better illuminate the exhibit area.

Llano County Historical Society Board Director Martha Long said providing a comfortable viewing experience and preserving the artifacts entrusted to the museum’s care are paramount.

LCRA, PEC award grant to Cottonwood Shores for patrol vehicle

The City of Cottonwood Shores will soon have a new police patrol vehicle thanks to a $19,100 community development grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority and Pedernales Electric Cooperative.

The new patrol vehicle will help the city schedule officers and improve response time to emergency calls.

Burnet County Judge James Oakley of Spicewood and Carlos Palasciano described their respective visions about the future of the Pedernales Electric Cooperative during a Thursday evening forum in Johnson City.
The two men are candidates for the District 5 place on the board currently held by Oakley, who also serves as the board president. PEC hosted a forum for the candidates at their cooperative headquarters.

LCRA flood operations to continue

Although local skies should remain mostly sunny, waterfront residents and travelers need to remain on alert along the Highland Lakes.

A ridge of high pressure, strengthening across Texas will create sunny skies and temperatures in the 80s, here, mostly through Saturday, according to Bob Rose, Lower Colorado River Authority chief meteorologist. However, the National Weather Service issued a Sever Weather Alert for Tuesday, April 26, that could have renewed showers extending to the upstream territory of the Colorado River.

Marble Falls PD investigate kidnapping

Marble Falls Police are investigating the alleged kidnapping of a 13-year-old girl from the west side of the city in the early morning hours of Sunday, April 24.

Marble Falls Capt. Glenn Hanson said the girl was discovered unconscious in her neighbor’s yard at 3:50 a.m.

“The neighbor found her and called 911 immediately,” Hanson said. “Police and EMS responded, and she was examined and released.”

Hanson said the girl did not sustain any serious injuries, only minor scratches.

“She snuck out of her house and claimed a couple of guys grabbed her and pulled her into a vehicle,” Hanson said.

The teen described the subjects as two Hispanic males in a dark colored pickup truck. According to a police department release, the girl heard one man tell the other that she was too young, and she was struck in the face and knocked unconscious before waking up in her neighbor’s yard.

Burnet County Sheriff’s authorities have confirmed the arrest of wanted man Lacy Pearson.

Burnet County Sheriff’s Department issued a release Saturday at 9 p.m.  stating that Pearson was apprehended at three hour earlier at 6 p.m. in Burnet during a traffic stop.

“Deputies initiated a stop in the 600 block of Buchanan Drive,” the release stated.  “The deputy

quickly recognized one of the vehicle occupants as a subject who was wanted by the United

States Marshal’s Office.”

Pearson was taken into custody without incident. Pearson was the subject of a search by multiple law enforcement agencies in the Bertram area on Wednesday, April 20 after his probation on a criminal charge was revoked by the U.S. Marshal’s Office.

Sunday service caps Granite Shoals 50th Year Bash

Some 300 members of the community of faith of the Highland Lakes gather on the steps of Granite Shoals City Hall Sunday, April 24, for a joint service of thanksgiving and hope that capped the Granite Shoals 50th Year Bash.

Churches in Granite Shoals sat empty Sunday morning, April 24. More than 300 of their members were gathered for a community-wide service on the steps of city hall. The climax of the Granite Shoals 50th Year Bash to celebrate the past was a gathering in of faith in the future of the city. Children were at the forefront of the event, applauded for their music and praised for their work as volunteers throughout the year to entertain their churches and the elderly. The worship service followed on the heels of the Saturday festival that went on into the night, thanks to extra performers who took the stage before a final jam session with john Arthur martinez and Tejas. It was estimated that more than 2,000 visitors took part in the event.
