Music, carnival rides, shopping, games and fun for the whole family — all of it can be found this weekend at MayFest 2018 in Marble Falls, which continues to midnight Saturday at Johnson Park, 230 Avenue J in Marble Falls.

The MayFest Carnival is a large draw each year and brings out fans of people who love rolling, spinning, whirling, playing games of fun and chance and eating all of the great food on the midway. The fun at the Carnival begins at 5 p.m. and continues to midnight both Friday and Saturday nights.

Market vendors are also open for shopping at the same time as the carnival with a variety of crafts and goods available for purchase.

Friday, May 11, is also Tejano music night and will feature a free concert with Rey Avila y Sus Legitimos Del Norte from 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

Bull riders and barrel racers, cowboys and cowgirls, and rodeo fans of all ages will once again take the opportunity to come together for the good of their sport at the 52nd annual Burnet County Rodeo this Friday, May 11 and Saturday, May 12.

Faith Academy announced its partnership with Hellas Construction, Inc. to construct phase one of its athletic complex, called “Fields of Faith.” 

Officials will break ground on the Faith Academy campus at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 15 to celebrate the launch of construction on the football field and track. The public is invited to this special event.

A years-long dream will finally come to fruition for the community of Joppa and the whole of Burnet County on Saturday, May 12. The Russell Fork and North Fork bridges in Joppa will receive their well-deserved Texas Historical Registry recognition at two dedication ceremonies which will be held at the bridges' locations.

A project to reconstruct the intersection of US 281 and Ranch to Market Road 1431 has been added to the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP) for 2019-2022, CAMPO officials said this week.

Early voting in the May 22 joint primary runoff election will begin Monday, May 14, and end Friday, May 18, in both Burnet and Llano counties.

Polls also will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, on Election Day at various polling locations in both counties

Burnet County

There are three contested races on the Republican side of the ballot in Burnet County, while there are two contested races on the Democrat side.

The voters of the Llano Independent School District elected two trustees in Saturday's election, but will find themselves having to elect a new trustee again next year.

Ron Cunningham won his re-election bid for Place 5 LISD trustee in final but unoffical returns, but he will be forced to resign from the LISD Board of Trustees because he won the Republican Party nomination for county judge in the March primary.

Cunningham jumped out to a lead in early and absentee voting and claimed a 298-262 victory over his challenger, Dean Campbell. There were 29 under votes in the race, but even if all had gone to Campbell, he would still have finished seven votes shy of Cunningham.
