HSB council adds committees, discusses city financial issues

Sporting new iPads, Horseshoe Bay City Council members added two new committees and discussed city finances at its meeting Tuesday, Jan. 20.

City council members asked for residents to consider applying for participation in one of the two “advisory, single-purpose” committees added at the meeting. A Long Range Planning Committee, which was first suggested by former councilman Tom Schmersahl, was established to formulate a vision of the city’s future.

The council also added an Information and Communication Committee to help promote the city to realtors, builders and prospective residents. 

The deadline to submit an application to participate is Feb. 10. Applications are available at the city website (www.horseshoe-bay-tx.gov) or at City Hall.

Two council members will serve as liaisons between the committees and the council.

Council members will likely select members at the Feb. 17 city council meeting.

The city attorney said details are yet to be worked out. “Purpose, function and tenure” will be determined at the next council meeting with either an ordinance or a resolution, said Rex Baker.

The council also requested residents’ help in formulating a “Mission Statement” for the city, with a deadline of Feb. 10 so council members can select one at its Feb. 17 meeting.

“How would you define our purpose? Here’s a hint: keep it short, simple and easy to memorize,” suggested Councilman Jerry Gray in his “council comments” memorandum.
