No. 2 state-ranked Faith Academy travels to San Antonio for a 6 p.m. tipoff Tuesday against Incarnate Word. The warmup game will be the toughest test to date for the Lady Flames as they enter the TAPPS playoffs.
The Lady Flames (30-3, 12-0) have earned a bye to the TAPPS Class 3A regional tournament, which is scheduled for Feb. 27-28 at San Antonio Cornerstone.
The Lady Flames closed the regular season with a 67-34 win over Temple Central Texas Christian on Friday.
“We played really well and got after them hard for about 10 minutes and then got bored and sloppy,’’ Faith Academy coach Jerry English said. “Sedona Prince had an outstanding game, as did Sierra Brinkley, Taylor Denton and Hannah Cozby.’’
The Lady Flames have won 99 straight district games and have put together eight straight 30-win seasons. The Lady Flames were 30-4 last season, capturing the Class 2A state title with a win over New Braunfels Christian.
“I am really proud of this young team,’’ English said. “They have faced all of the challenges in this new AAA district and came out on top.’’
Faith Academy jumped out to a 28-7 lead to lead after one quarter and Central Texas Christian and led 46-19 at halftime.
