Huey O. Sherrill has made a name for himself, developing a following of loyal customers at Huey O.’s in the LBJ Food Mart in the familiar yellow gas station in Marble Falls. “We outgrew the LBJ Food Mart in about six months,” Sherrill said. Huey O.’s opened in October, 2013.
Now, Huey and his wife, Shannon, are giving their new Cottonwood Shores location a facelift ahead of an “ambitious” opening day slated for the Memorial Day holiday this coming Monday, May 25.
Seating will be available for around 50 people – a far cry from the two-booth spot he had in the old place.
Folks would sit almost intimately close to enjoy their burgers and fries. “I would say to people, ‘I’m sorry we don’t have space,’ and folks would say the food was worth it,” Sherrill said.
He was proud that Huey O.’s built community while in the yellow store. “People who didn’t know each other would find themselves sitting at the same booth and they would be friends by the time they left,” Sherrill said.
So, Huey O.'s is about more than the food.
“When you come into my restaurant, you’re family so make yourself at home,” Sherrill said. “I think everyone felt that.”
Sherrill said the menu will be essentially the same, with the addition of breakfast.
Prices will be a tad higher, though.
“Prices never changed in a year and a half, even though the price of meat rose,” Sherrill explained.
Although things will remain more or less the same, a few changes are on the horizon.
Sherrill will have help from his wife running the restaurant, unlike his old business where he did everything from flipping burgers to running the cash register.
“Here we are as husband and wife, it’s a small American dream, really,” Sherrill said.
