UPDATE: A tornado watch and flash flood warning has been issued for Burnet and Llano counties in effect until 3 a.m. Sunday morning. Local dispatch reported a tornado touch down in Johnson City at 8:22 p.m.
High water crossing closures in Marble Falls are as follows: Avenue N, Lakeshore Drive, Avenue L and Broadway near Childress Park.
A flash flood warning has been issued for the entire south Central Texas area through Sunday at 7 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service, Burnet, Llano, Blanco, Williamson and Travis counties are all under a flash flood watch until Sunday night.
The weather statement said “a strong upper level system is already producing scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms capable of heavy rainfall across parts of the Texas Hill Country and I-35 corridor this afternoon. A larger band of thunderstorms capable of more heavy rainfall will enter south Central Texas early this evening beginning across the western counties moving east. This activity is expected to reach the I-35 corridor including Austin and San Antonio around 10 p.m., then heavy rainfall will persist through Sunday morning mainly across the eastern counties. Rainfall totals are forecast to range from one to four inches with isolated amounts of six inches or more possible.”
A hazardous weather outlook was also issued for the area as conditions are “favorable for a few severe storms with damaging winds and isolated brief tornadoes possible.”
The organization stated that tornado activity would be most likely on Sunday at the leading edge of the thunderstorm complex.
A flash flood watch means flash flooding is possible in or near the watch area. The National Weather Service advises those in the watch area develop a plan in case that flash flooding develops.
“Do not drive into flooded roadways. The majority of flood related fatalities occur in vehicles,” the website said. “If you see a flooded roadway, remember – turn around, don’t drown.”
