Max Collier Copeland

March 7, 1930 – May 25, 2015

Max Collier Copeland, 85, moved to Heaven while in his sleep on Monday, May 25, 2015, with Glenna, his wife of 57 years, by his side.

He was the sixth and youngest child of Walter and Bessie Copeland of Vera, Texas. At the age of 16, Max became a preacher, and the first marriage he conducted was for his sister, Thelma and husband, Clifford Thomas. His father, Walter Copeland, was also a minister and taught him to “Preach the Bible with authority and love the people.” And that’s what Max did for his entire life.

Max was a proud Baylor Bear, graduating from Baylor University in 1951. He continued advanced studies at Southwestern Baptist Seminary until graduating in 1956. He pastored several small Baptist churches and while leading a revival in Killeen, Texas, he met Glenna, who was playing the piano. They were married on Sept. 7, 1957, and moved to Marble Falls in 1958. They raised their three children, Dathan, MaxAnne and Dan, in this idyllic and loving community. Max was the Pastor of the First Baptist Church for 42 years, retiring in the year 2000 when he became the pastor emeritus.

Known to all as “Brother Max,” he served everyone in the community with unmatched compassion and heartfelt love, regardless of their economic or social status. He was called to minister to the people and he did so with fervor and devotion while sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Max could always be found cheering on his beloved Mustangs from his red chair at most Marble Falls ISD athletic events. Regardless of the sport, he was an avid supporter and was proud to be known as the Mustangs #1 fan.

He is preceded in death by: his parents, two brothers, three sisters and a daughter-in-law.
