Robert Charles “Bob” Gentry, 94, died on Wednesday, June 3, 2015, in Kingsland.

He was born Dec. 24, 1920, to J.D. and Irene (Powell) Gentry.

He attended The University of Texas and competed as a member of the UT swim team.

Bob qualified and would have participated in the 1944 Olympic Games in London, England, but World War II caused the Olympics to be cancelled.

After a 45-year career with Shell Oil Company, Bob and his wife, Betty, retired to Lake LBJ near Marble Falls.

He was an active participant in the Granite Shoals Fraternal Order of Eagles, a charitable organization that serves the local community.

Bob spent the rest of his life in the service of family, friends and community.

He is survived by: his daughter, Frances Grayless of Granite Shoals; three grandchildren, Jason Grayless and wife, Diana, of Willis, Texas; Jennifer Kouri of Denver, Colorado; Clint Charles Grayless of Boulder, Colorado, and, one great-granddaughter, Brody Grayless of Willis, Texas.

He is also survived by two sisters, Catherine Mitchell and Dorothy Brady, of Denton, Texas, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by: his wife of 50 years, Betty Bell Gentry; brothers, Hugh, Jack and Carl Gentry and sisters, Margie Chance and May Scoggins.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 26, 2015, at 2 p.m. at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Denton, Texas.
