Emma Ronshausen Caraway of Kingsland, Texas. known as “Nana,” died peacefully and went to her savior's arms on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015, at the age of 95.

Emma was born Sept. 10, 1920, in Cost, Texas, to Sofie and Henry Cuvelier, who arrived in the United States through Ellis Island from Belgium in the 1800s.

She eventually moved to the Texas Hill Country settling in Kingsland.

Emma lived a full life experiencing close to a century of changes in the America, such as The Great Depression, World War II, Women’s Rights and Civil Rights.

Her life experiences and her belief in the lord gave her strength to become a strong woman of character and faith.

She was preceded in death by: the love of husbands, Walter John Ronshausen, Ray Bunton and Prentice Caraway; her two sons, Milford Henry Ronshausen and Johnny Ronshausen; her granddaughter, Debra Lynn Ronshausen, and 10 siblings.

Loved by all, Nana served the Lord at Buckner Baptist Benevolence Boys Ranch in Kingsland for 22 years managing the culinary needs for 72 boys, house parents and staff. The boys always said “No one could prepare food like Nana.” She made everything from scratch and served it with love.

There are many boys (men) out there in the world who were given a chance to have a good life because of her caring and love. No one ever turned down a pie from Nana!

Nana is survived by her daughter, Shirley Kaye Ronshausen who loved her unconditionally, became a caregiver for her and is the woman she is today because of the love and strength she received from Nana.

She is also survived by: her granddaughter, Denise Ronshausen Treadwell, who always said Nana was the “rock” she needed to get through life, and a hug from grandma could make everything better; Denise’s husband, Tim Treadwell;three great-grandchildren who always loved grandma's sugar pies; several close nieces Margaret Altman, Donna Jean, Linda Magoney and Carolyn Tatum; her dear friend, Peggy Savage, and many others.

Nana spent her spare time tending to a beautiful yard, flowers and fruit trees. She was an excellent gardener and is now enjoying the garden of heaven.

She will be missed here on earth but is now happy in the Lord’s arms.

A family graveside service will be held at a later date.

The family has requested donations be sent in memory of Emma Ronshausen Caraway to:  Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave. FL.17 Chicago, Illinois 60601, or call 800-272-3900.
