Candidate filing for MFISD Board of Trustees starts Wednesday

Two seats on the Marble Falls Independent School District Board of Trustees will be up for election on May 7. Potential candidates may file their packets with the district starting tomorrow, Wednesday, Jan. 20, and running through Feb. 19.
Place 1, held by Mike Savage, and Place 2, held by Karl Westerman, are the two seats up for election on the staggered board. Members serve three-year terms.
Potential school board trustees must: reside within the district for at least six months, be a U.S. citizen, bat at least 18 years old, and have no felony convictions or court judgments of mental incapacitation.
Savage, owner of Savage Pumps, is currently serving his third term on the board after being re-elected in May, 2013. Westerman is a computer software consultant and has served on the board since 2001.
So far, no one has announced an intention to run, and the board is expected to approve the order of election at its meeting Monday, Jan. 18, said district spokesman Bruce Peckover.
Trustees get rewards from their service. “Serving as a member on the board is one of the most rewarding and challenging positions I have ever held,” said Rick Edwards, board president. He said he enjoys seeing growth in students and staff members. “Trustees give their time, talents, love for children, a listening ear and eyes for achieving something greater than themselves.”
Of course, it’s not always easy.
