Chase Salinas almost had his second home run in as many days Friday. The Mustangs leadoff hitter smashed a 1-0 pitch off San Antonio Lee’s relief pitcher in the bottom of the sixth inning Friday to allow sophomore T.J. Stephenson to score the game-winning run. In a bizarre ending, Salinas blasted the ball to right fielder Diego Ballez who couldn’t handle the hard hit shot. Then Salinas nearly caught Stephenson on the base paths between first and second. Stephenson recovered and ran to third base, stopping briefly before Marble Falls coach Tim Hulon waved him home for the game-winning run. Marble Falls won, 4-3, in their second game of the Hill Country Classic at Marble Falls. Mustang pitchers Dalton Mayberry and Kenny Ulbricht combined to throw a 4-hitter on the mound. The Mustangs had just four hits, one each from Salinas, Colton Burns, Peyton Emery and Ulbricht. On Thursday, the Mustangs beat Canyon Lake, 11-1, in five innings, scoring eight in the bottom of the fifth inning with Salinas belting a 3-run homer as part of the big inning on Thursday. The six-team tournament runs through Saturday. For complete coverage, please read Tuesday’s Highlander
