Julia Evelyn Johnson, age 87, of Odessa, passed from this life to her eternal home in Heaven at her residence on Thursday, March 31, 2016.
She was born in San Angelo, on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 1928 to the late John and Marguerite (Hardin) Nettleton.
She was a member of First Southern Baptist of Gardendale and loved her church family very much. She was also a school teacher.
Evelyn was very opinionated, had lots of spunk and wouldn’t mind voicing her opinion.
She loved to dance, play bridge and to visit Lake Buchanan.
Evelyn was a school teacher in El Paso, Sanderson, Odessa, Round Rock, Rock Springs and Wink. She enjoyed teaching 4th & 5th grade the most.
Her last few months she got to watch her granddaughter Trista dance and cheer, which she had wanted to do forever.
She also got to hold one of the newest great-granddaughters Lilly.
Evelyn got to go back to Lake Buchanan one last time to see it full, the bluebonnets and visit with longtime friends and neighbors.
She enjoyed watching the various birds and cardinals were her favorite.
Those left to cherish her love and memories are her son: David Bolinger of Odessa; daughter: Brenda Hoover and husband Louie of Odessa; six grandchildren: Dave Roff, Lauren Bolinger, Toby Kiker and wife Crystal, Staci Popp of Eunice, New Mexico, Scott Hoover and wife Jolie of Conroe, and Ryan Hoover of Odessa; eight great-grandchildren: Lilly, Maisie, Trista, Kiley, Kalen, Brayden, Bailey and Eli.
She was preceded in death by her parents: John and Marguerite Nettleton; brother: John Nettleton; sister: Jean Welch; grandchild: Jeremy Kiker, as well as, David and Brenda’s father: Malcom Bolinger.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at First Southern Baptist Church of Gardendale, officiated by Reverend Terry Easley.
Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel and condolences to the family may be sent online at acreswestfuneral.com.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Southern Baptist Church of Gardendale General Fund.
