Legacy Park dedication set for April 22

A ceremony for the dedication of Johnson Park as a Lone Star Legacy Park will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 22, at the park's amphitheater.
“Johnson Park is almost 130 years old and it now is one of only 29 parks to receive the Lone Star Legacy Award,” said Robert Moss, City of Marble Falls Parks & Recreation Director.
The award is conferred by the Texas Recreation and Park Society (TRAPS), a non-profit organization affiliated with the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). Johnson Park is joining the ranks of Lone Star Legacy Parks that include Austin's Zilker Municipal Park, San Gabriel Park in Georgetown, Landa Park in New Braunfels and Artesian Park in Corpus Christi.
A Lone Star Legacy Park is a park that holds special prominence in the local community and the state of Texas. The parks have endured the test of time and have become iconic to those who have visited, played and rested on their grounds. A designation as a Lone Star Legacy is one of the highest honors that can be bestowed on a park.
Guest speaker will be the park society executive director Michal Anne Lord, PhD.
“We are honored that Johnson Park has been designated as a Lone Star Legacy Park. This designation is one of the highest honors that can be bestowed on a park,” said Marble Falls Mayor John Packer, another of the officials joining in the ceremony. “The public is invited to join in this celebration.”
Johnson Park is located at 230 South Avenue J near the confluence of Backbone Creek and the Colorado River/Lake Marble Falls.
