Horseshoe Bay sets public irrigation school for May 18
BY BILL TEETER/HORSESHOE BAY WATER CONSERVATION SPECIALIST
Homeowners and business operators who want to know more about how to run their landscape sprinkler systems efficiently to save water and hold down billings can get some pointers in a free irrigation workshop at Horseshoe Bay City Hall May 18.
The workshop, hosted by the City and the Lower Colorado River Authority, will run from 10 a.m.-noon in city council chambers. The main speaker, Brett Briant, water conservation coordinator for the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA), will focus on four topics:
-
Efficient irrigation practices
-
Irrigation repair
-
Conservation during times of plenty with your system
-
Building soil for maximum plant health and water quality
The workshop also will include a brief discussion of local and state rules about irrigation.
Irrigation accounts for more than half of Horseshoe Bay’s annual water consumption. Misconceptions about how much to water lawns leads to wasted water and wasted dollars. More knowledge about irrigation can help reduce unnecessary losses.
You don’t have to be a Horseshoe Bay resident to attend. The workshop is open to the public, and all interested persons in the LCRA service area are encouraged to come.
Briant is a licensed irrigator. He has a degree in turf grass management and water resource protection. His role with the LCRA is providing education and outreach to help customers run their irrigation efficiently. He also coordinates LCRA’s residential irrigation technology program, along with commercial, industrial and institutional rebate programs.
