Erika O’Conner has been named Colt Elementary School principal.

A new principal for Colt Elementary School was approved during the meeting Monday, May 16, of the Marble Falls Independent School District (MFISD) Board of Trustees.

The appointment of Erika O’Conner was recommended by Superintendent Chris Allen, PhD, based on an extensive search process. Staff, parents and community members helped set the search criteria used also to evaluate six Colt principal finalists. Allen conducted further interviews with two select candidates.

O’Connor replaces Keith Powell, who is retiring following 16 of service with MFISD and 31 total years in education, including the post of principal of Highland Lakes Elementary School.

“We listened closely to our staff and our Colt parents to match our new principal with what our community is looking for in their next principal,” said Allen. “Mrs. O’Connor’s experience as a teacher leader, teacher coach and educational leader with experience meeting the educational needs of Marble Falls’ students distinguished her as the top candidate for Colt Elementary.”

O’Connor most recently worked as assistant principal at Bertram Elementary School in Burnet Consolidated Independent School District (BCISD), but she is not new to the MFISD. Prior to her administrative work, O’Connor served as a teacher leader at Marble Falls Elementary. She has held various teaching and leadership positions in Marble Falls ISD between August of 2000 and July of 2015.

“It is a tremendous honor to be named as Principal of Colt Elementary School and to serve in the Marble Falls Independent School District,” said O’Connor. “Marble Falls ISD holds a special place in my heart. I have worked for Marble Falls ISD for years and both of my children are graduates of Marble Falls High School.

“I am committed to the students and their families and I am thrilled and privileged to get to serve alongside them.”
