A Minnesota graphic artist has claimed the prize for creating a 25th Anniversary of LakeFest logo.

Stephen Dorsey, who produces freelance artistic creations under the name Dorsey Design, submitted the winning entry for promotion of the Lake Marble Falls event that takes place Aug. 12 – 14 this summer.

The Marble Falls/Lake LBJ Chamber of Commerce sponsored the logo contest, awarding Dorsey a $200 cash prize and two Top Eliminator Club tickets worth $350.

“We won't be able to come to the races but we are sharing the tickets with friends from Dallas who will be down,” said Dorsey. “Maybe one day we'll make it.”

Dorsey and his wife are parents of three children and reside in Western Minnesota.
“The last time I was in Texas was the mid-80s, but I love it,” he said. “I actually found the contest online and being sort of a gear-head it appealed to me.

“The design needed to convey speed and festivness, so a drag boat is the visual focus, with the nose centering and pointing the reader's eyes town towards the festival name,” Dorsey explained.

Checkered flags flank the words “Marble Falls” below the boat and the design includes the years 1991-2016 of the 25-year history of the race.

Dorsey has spent the same 25 years as a professional artist. He holds a bachelor's degree from Minnesota State University and a master's degree from North Dakota State university.

“A lot of people in my industry frown on logo designs,” said Dorsey. “They call it 'crowd sourcing,” but from my perspective I do it for fun, for the competition and to sharpen my design skills.

“I am interested in corporate identity branding, logo design, print making and website design. I am working on a LakeFest tee shirt design right now.”
