Donald Wayne Bandy, 77, of Marble Falls died at his home May 4, 2016 surrounded by his family following an extended battle with metastatic lung cancer. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 6th, at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home. Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 7th, also at the Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home with Charles Hundley officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park.

Don was born October 1, 1938 in Tokio, TX to Royal Hayden Bandy and Tincy Tucker Bandy. He attended school in Plains, Milsap and Weatherford and served in the United States Air Force at Keesler AFB (Biloxi, MS), Ellington AFB (Houston) and Tachikawa AFB (Tachikawa, Japan).

Don was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Gayle Bowen and Bobbie King. He is survived by his wife Cheryl King Bandy, son Dan Bandy of Shawnee, OK, daughter and son-in-law Laurel and Todd Pickens of Fort Stockton, brother and sister-in-law Jack and Nancy Bandy of Marble Falls, brother-in-law Pete Bowen of Haskell, grandsons Cooper and Tucker Pickens of Fort Stockton, numerous nieces and nephews and the mother of his children Elaine Mattson Bandy of Kingsland.

Anchor Don and his family moved to the Marble Falls area in 1971 at which time he founded Don Bandy Construction Company which performed dirt work, road construction and paving throughout the Texas Hill Country. In the early 1970s thru the 1980s Don Bandy Construction Company constructed and paved roads for many large area projects including Horseshoe Bay, Apple Rock, Apple Head, Lago Vista, The Hills of Lakeway, Billy Clark Subdivision and the 3M Research facility near Austin. The company also completed 18 subdivisions in 18 months for developer Nash Phillips/Copus during the height of the 80s Austin building boom. Near Marble Falls Don developed Westwood Hills subdivision, then partnered with his good friend Allen Edge to develop Ancient Oaks subdivision and with Don Schautteet to develop Quail Valley subdivision. He was proudest of these three projects as they provided nice areas to “grow” families.

Don also contributed to improvements in Marble Falls in the early 80s, doing site work to build the soccer fields between Sixth Street and Broadway and the dirt work and rock moving for the Charley Taylor Rodeo Arena south of town. In 1980, he received the Honorary Chapter Farmer award from the Marble Falls FFA and was a proud support of kids and their Ag projects for many years in Burnet County.

Don met and married Cheryl King in 1987. They were blessed with two grandsons who “Da” particularly loved singing to even though the “old tunes” and funny stories often made them laugh and cover their ears.

Don had a strong Christian faith. Prior to moving to Marble Falls he was a member of and served as a deacon for the Christian Church of Midland. At the time of his death he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Marble Falls where he loved attending the AHA Sunday School class. The class’ members were with him and prayed him through many of his health issues. Helping him to remember “Because Christ Lives” he could face them all knowing that at the end he would be with Jesus. The men of the AHA Sunday School class will serve as his pallbearers.
