Aug. 9, 1926 ~ June 26, 2016
Kenneth Glenn Burton, 89, went to his heavenly home on June 26, 2016. He was born to Glen Kenneth and Clarice Florence (Golden) Burton on August 9, 1926, in Oil City, Louisiana.
From an early age, Kenneth felt a calling to be a physician. He attended L.S.U. Baton Rouge on a basketball scholarship where he also excelled at football and track. Later, he attended medical school at L.S.U. in New Orleans, finishing his education in June of 1951. He completed his internship at Santa Rosa Hospital in San Antonio in 1952 and joined the United States Air Force later that year. He was stationed at Bolling Air Force Base, specializing in family practice and emergency care. Later, he was honored to serve as Flight Surgeon for Air Force One and the Joint Chiefs of Staff under presidents Eisenhower and Truman. Following his discharge in June of 1954, he set up his successful private practice in San Antonio where he served the community for over forty years.
Although Kenneth was a devoted doctor, he always put God and family first. He met Mickey, his wife of 66 years, while he was still in medical school. They married on December 28,1949, and had five children: Brenda, Glenn, John, Debbie, and Mark. Anyone who knew them would say that life was never dull at the Burton home. He was a hands-on dad who enjoyed many hobbies and sports with his children…and their countless friends! Whether it was hunting, fishing, photography, or skiing, he always approached activities with a passion. The same could be said for his desire for life-long learning. He was a Bible scholar and constantly studied_medicine.
Dr. Burton is survived by his wife, Mildred Hay Burton, his children Brenda Burton of San Antonio, Glen and wife Lynn (Hanson) Burton of Austin, Dr. John and Marsha (Hedges) Burton of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Deborah Burton Duke of Sunrise Beach, Texas, and Mark and Michelle (Termohlen) Burton of Leander, Texas, 9 grandchildren,10great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
