A Granite Shoals woman was arrested on felony assault charges after a domestic dispute between her and a member of her household.
Stephanie Albertina Sarmiento, 22, was arrested by Burnet County Sheriff's Deputies on Sunday, July 31, after a dispute with a member her of her household in the 100 block of Little Elm Road.
“It was reported as a disturbance in progress,” said Burnet County Chief Sheriff's Deputy Joe Canady, “but while deputies were en route, they were notified that the (woman) had a knife.”
Before deputies arrived, the victim, a man in his mid twenties, was able to take the knife away from Sarmiento in a brief struggle, Canady said, adding that the knife was reported to be a kitchen knife.
Sarmiento was then arrested without incident.
“They were having a dispute over one of the parties moving out,” Canady said.
Sarmiento was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a first-degree felony. She could face between five to 99 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
Sarmiento was charged with assault causing bodily injury family violence in June 2012, but the charge was dismissed.
