FirstCapital Bank of Texas (FCBT) has been named one of the Best Banks to Work For in 2016 by American Banker, ranking fourth in the United States and first in Texas.

Locally, FCB has operated a mortgage office a little over a year, but the finishing touches are being added to the outside drive-in kiosk of its office at 9891 Farm to Market Road 2147 in Horseshoe Bay, and it already is a full-service bank. Its staff of seven agrees with the ranking of Best Bank to work for by American Banker Magazine.

“It fits well with our mission statement,” said local Market President Scott Streit. “That's something we believe in. The triangle in our logo is the whole meaning. At the top is our customers and the points at the bottom are our communities and our employees.

“Our employees are all involved in volunteerism in the community,” said Streit. “For employees I think the little things add up: birthday recognitions, monthly chair massages, gym membership reimbursements. We just did comprehensive health screenings for all our employees.”

“To be named fourth Best Bank to Work For in the nation and number one in Texas is a great honor for FirstCapital,” said FCBT Chairman Ken Burgess of the corporate headquarters in Midland. “This recognition would not be attainable if it weren’t for everyone in our organization. It has taken everyone working together as a team and embracing our 'You above all' mission to make this achievement possible.”

FirstCapital’s focus on creating a positive culture for its employees is displayed through its internal award and recognition programs, stress reducing and team building activities and community service initiatives, Burgess said.

The program was initiated in 2013 to identify, recognize and honor the best banks to work for in the nation as a project of American Banker and Best Companies Group. In all, 60 banks achieved “Best Bank” status in this fourth year for the program.

Determining the Best Banks to Work For involved evaluating each participating bank’s workplace policies, practices, and demographics. This part of the process was worth approximately 25 percent of the total evaluation. Employee surveys aimed at assessing the experiences and attitudes of individual employees with respect to their workplace were also administered; worth approximately 75 percent of the total evaluation.

To be considered, banks had to have at least 50 employees working in the U.S.; be a commercial bank, thrift, mutual association, mutual savings bank, savings and loan association or a savings bank.

FirstCapital Bank of Texas, operation since 1998, has branches in Amarillo, Lubbock and Midland, in addition to Horseshoe Bay. The new bank facility will feature FCBT's new Telerconnect video technology that will allow drive-through banking 6 a.m.-midnight, seven days a week, and as an ATM 24 hours a day.

“We have circled Sept. 29 as a completion date for its grand opening,” said Streit. “We think we'll be ready. For now, we are here 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for lobby banking and online.”
